Context:

The form of this bowl, with six lobes and caryatid handles, is characteristic of New York and has its antecedents in Scandinavian and Dutch designs. The initials inscribed on the bowl are said to be those of Theunis Jacobsen Quick, a baker, and his wife Vroutje Janse Haring, who were married in 1689.
