Context:
This early example of Kuntz's work perhaps was made before he moved from Northhampton County (Pennsylvania) to Philadelphia in 1810. The Rococo-style carving of the stock and the confident treatment of the engraved brass inlay demonstrate his early mastery of the techniques that would make him one of Philadelphia's most famous gunsmiths.
