These oblong plaques are decorated with pseudo-Kufic (fake Arabic) designs indicating that they were produced in Spain under Muslim influence. They may have served as applied ornaments to some article of personal adornment such as a belt. Their space suggests that they were perhaps inspired by Arabic coinage. |
