Context:
On the left wing is the Consecration of ST. Martin; on the right, the saint shares his cloak with a beggar. Germany is suggested as the place of origin by the tiled roof and, especially, the pinnacles between the gables (almost always German). Medieval ivories were frequently painted in luminous colors as in this example.
