As Rembrandt's late nude studies had in his day, the figure drawings of Edouard Manet exasperated contemporary critics by their disregard for "correct" academic method. This drawing, executed from a painter's point of view, is closely related to Manet's etching "Woman at Her Bath" of 1861.
