Context:

The vibrant turquoise ground (bleu céleste) was developed at Vincennes in 1753 and was immediately put to use in a table service for Louis XV. At this time the king had a financial interest in the factory, which moved to Sèvres in 1756, but it was not until 1759 that he purchased it outright, establishing the national factory it remains today.

This table service was the first produced at Vincennes, and its nearly five hundred pieces include tureens, plates and platters, butter and cheese dishes, salt-cellars, and coolers for wineglasses and bottles.
