Subject Description: Towering crags, studded with trees and shrubs, fill the background. At the base of the mountain, in center foreground, is a house, with a scholar seated on the veranda playing a lute. Two servants at the right, one carrying a number of scrolls. Two largetrees form a frame for the central motif. A small mountain stream flows among rocks, past the house, to lower edge of picture.
