Context: Statuette of a Horse, about 750-700 bcGreece, CorinthBronzeJohn L. Severance Fund, 1998.173This cast bronze statuette was produced by a Corinthian workshop. Just over 60 examples are known from this workshop tradition. Among this group, this statuette is one of the most outstanding. At 11.5 centimeters in height, it is also one of the largest Corinthian horses, and is also completely intact. Conceived in profile, the horse's form has been abstracted and balanced in a wonderful proportional harmony that appears strikingly modern.
