Subject Description: Group with Ugolino seated on a draped rocky outcrop. The gruesome subject of this work is drawn Dante's Inferno. Count Ugolino and his four sons were imprisoned in a tower to starve to death. Ugolino dinally devoured his children. The heroic musculature of the figures is based on the sculpture of MichelangeloBronze statuette, dark patination; group with Ugolino seated on a draped rocky outcrop, his right arm resting on his knee, his left on the back of one of his children as he looks downward and gnaws his fingers, three of his children, clinging to his legs, the fourth lying expired at his feet. The wh ole is on an oblong plinth.
