Subject Description: Rosewood; upholstered armchair with veneer, gold leaf, and carving used in 19th c. adaptation of ancient Egyptian motifs. Brass bird's claw and ball feet. Brass Pharaoh's heads on both ends of arms. Tapestry weave upholstery on seat, arms, and back; black cut velvet around sides and front with red cut velvet braiding. Design of upholstery on back: temple structure with steps leading up to statue of seated Pharaoh or deity; flanking obelisks with globe-like spheres floating about half-way up. Other 19th c. adaptations of Egyptian motifs on back, seat, and arms. Stylized, almost abstract, bird and flower motifs on seat
