Context: In 1785 Mary Elizabeth Milles, only daughter and heiress of Richard Milles, married the Hon. Mr. Watson, later second baron Sondes. For this fashionable portrait Reynolds was paid one hundred five pounds in two installments in May and July 1789. It is among his latest works.
