Subject Description: Painting on silk representing a New Year's party of battledore & shuttlecock at sunrise. Five girls are seen playing before an open doorway decorated on either side with Kadomatsu, 'pine of the doorway'. Above the door is a typical New Year's decoration made up of fern leaves, yuzuri leaves, a lobster & a peach, all emblematical of long life & good fortune. A girl in black kimono with delicate vine design in gold & fan designs in colors, holds a gilded battledore as does her companion in gray with green obi. A third girl in violet, blue & white kimono with cloud designs adjusts the feathers of a shuttlecock. The two smaller girls wear green and red kimono
