Context:

Josef Hoffmann designed this table for the Vienna home of Broncia and Hugo Koller shortly after organizing the Wiener Werkstätte in 1903. Hoffmann and Koloman Moser (1868-1918) collaborated on the home's interior design, and Mrs. Koller was a frequent shopper at the Wiener Werkstätte. The reductive geometric lines, varying thicknesses of wood, and tapering elements represent the beginning of twentieth-century modernist furniture form.
