Description:
This figure, now missing its head, is a masterful example of a rare type known as steatopygous, which is characterized by particularly full buttocks. The ample upper torso has rounded outlines and pendant breasts, and is framed by the arms which meet at the chest. The incised fingers have been nearly obliterated by weathering. The massive three-dimensional lower body shows a bulging abdomen and buttocks, undoubtedly indicative of fertility. The groin and knees are indicated by grooved creases, and the legs, carved separately only near the bottom, end in small stumpy feet
