Context:
The Virgin and Child appear with Saints Catherine, John the Evangelist, Jodocus, and Mary Magdalene. Included in the scene are symbols of the Virgins purity and of Christ's death and redemptive mission: the wall, lilies, fruit tree, and the palm tree on a hill. The saints wear costumes fashionable around 1475 to 1480 and are arranged in a row across the foreground - as is characteristic of the late 15th century tapestries from Nuremberg.
